Zoll Medical is shutting down the Palm Springs, California plant that it acquired in 2024 through the purchase of select Vyaire Medical ventilator business assets.
According to a WARN notice letter dated Aug. 10 that Zoll sent to the state of California, 78 employees are affected. The Chelmsford, Massachusetts–based company — part of Tokyo-based Asahi Kasei — provided more than 60 days’ notice to affected workers in November 2024, with the layoffs running from summer 2026 through February 2027 as manufacturing is shifted out in phases.
In additional details shared with MassDevice, Zoll added that affected employees were eligible for severance.
Zoll said that it continues to make and sell the select respiratory care product lines acquired from Vyaire Medical’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy auction. The company is moving the Palm Springs manufacturing to Chelmsford; most Zoll Medical production is based in the U.S.
Zoll Medical officials described the acquisition of the Vyaire Medical assets, completed in October 2024, as an exciting opportunity because it enabled Zoll to sell Vyaire’s Bellavista, Fabian, LTV and 3100 HFOV product lines alongside its other respiratory care offerings.
Despite the Palm Springs closure, Zoll’s manufacturing workforce continues to grow. Overall, Zoll has 7,000 employees.
