Romano’s appointment as the India-based surgical robot maker’s CFO goes into effect on Aug. 3. She will be based in the U.S., where SS Innovations operates out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
She joins SS Innovations as the company looks to advance its surgical robotic capabilities, having submitted its Mantra 3 system to the FDA in December 2025. Its submission seeks indications in general, urological, colorectal, gynecological and cardiac surgery. In the meantime, the company also continues to demonstrate its telerobotic capabilities through long-distance remote surgery.
Mantra features a modular, 3D vision, open-console design with ergonomics that the company describes as superior. It engages machine learning models to improve safety and efficiency during procedures.
Romano comes to SS Innovations from another surgical robot maker, Vicarious Surgical, where she was named CFO in March 2025. There, she led financial and operational initiatives to reduce cash burn, strengthen the balance sheet and support strategic objectives.
Prior to Vicarious Surgical, Romano served as CFO of Entero Therapeutics and Kiora Pharmaceuticals. Her track record includes the raising of more than $100 million throughout her career. She began her career as an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
