Tivic Health Systems (Nasdaq:TIVC) filed a patent application for its vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) system.
Tivic has a portfolio of patients for its non-invasive VNS technology, and it aims to expand it with this new application.
In July 2024, the health tech company added three patents granted in the U.S. and Europe, further shoring up its intellectual property portfolio.
The new patent application, No. 63,801,058 filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, protects the therapeutics company’s approaches to personalized stimulation parameters and electrode positioning.
“This patent protects key learnings from our VNS optimization study, which is advancing the science of vagus nerve interventions. In fact, we believe we are moving the needle on what will become the state-of-the art treatment approach by delivering much greater and more consistent therapeutic effects compared to what is currently available,” said Blake Gurfein, the company’s chief scientific officer.
Tivic completed enrollment in a study of its VNS device in November 2024 with the aim of optimizing its approach and identifying the frequency and duration of treatment.
In addition to its recent patent filing, the company met with leaders at the White House and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in April. Tivic gave educational briefings on its clinical pipeline, including its non-invasive cervical VNS (ncVNS) technology.
“We deeply appreciated the opportunity to discuss the importance of our clinical pipeline in potentially protecting and healing both active and retired military personnel, first responders, as well as U.S. citizens and our allies,” said Tivic CEO Jennifer Ernst. “While these meetings were informal in nature, we expect to continue these discussions as Entolimod and our ncVNS medical programs progress toward potential FDA approval.”
Tivic will report its first quarter 2025 results on May 15.
