The installation took place at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona, Spain. It marks the initial European deployment for the China-based company’s system after it received CE mark in September 2025. That CE mark represented the second-ever single-port robot approval in Europe. Surgical robotics leader Intuitive received CE mark for its da Vinci SP single-port robot in 2024. Surgerii also says the system became the first single-port robot approved in Europe for pediatric surgery.
Beijing, China–based Surgerii’s latest milestone comes as it looks to take Shurui global, raising $100 million at the start of this year.
The company designed Shurui SP to combine continuum-bending instruments with a flexible stereoscopic 3D endoscope. It aims to enable surgeons to access and operate within confined anatomical spaces through a single incision. The system’s proprietary dual-continuum mechanism supports continuous bending and wide anatomical reach. Meanwhile, it maintains precise control throughout the procedure.
Surgerii touts the system’s “pioneering snake-like instruments” as potential game-changers in surgical robotics. It features multiple degrees of freedom, high-precision instruments, advanced motion-control algorithms and a surgeon-friendly interface.
Vall d’Hebron University Hospital surgeons performed a pediatric procedure with the robot, successfully conducting a nephroureterectomy on a twelve-year-old boy whose kidney and ureter had become infected and non-functional due to multiple stones.
“This first installation at Vall d’Hebron represents an important milestone for Surgerii Robotics,” said Kai Xu, CEO of Surgerii Robotics.
