Dr. Steven Mickelsen launches new minimally invasive ablation tech company Del Medtech

Dr. Steven Mickelsen, a pioneer in the pulsed field ablation (PFA) space, today announced the launch of his new venture, Del Medtech.

The seed-stage medical device company aims to advance minimally invasive ablation technology beyond cardiac care. It aims to address critical unmet needs in multiple therapeutic areas.

Mickelsen is widely recognized as a leader responsible for ushering in the use of PFAtechnology to treat patients. He founded Farapulse, which was later acquired by Boston Scientific in 2021 before becoming the second company with PFA technology approved by the FDA for treating AFib.

He then started Field Medical in 2022, leading the development of another PFA platform. However, Field Medical has an initial focus on ventricular tachycardia (VT). This is a different path to the previously mentioned PFA technology developers, who brought their platforms to market to initially treat AFib. The company has hit a number of recent milestones, including significant funding earlier this year.

Mickelsen will discuss his Field Medical venture and preview his next innovation with Del Medtech, offering a glimpse into the future of PFA at DeviceTalks West, Oct. 15–16, 2025, in Santa Clara, California. Register now at West.DeviceTalks.com. Here’s a 25% off discount code: MD25OFF

With Del Medtech, Mickelsen hopes to develop transformative, single-use ablation devices to improve efficiency and patient outcomes. Its initial focus centers around gastrointestinal (GI), ear, nose and throat (ENT), men’s and women’s health and oncology applications.

According to a news release, the company targets market opportunities with annual revenues ranging from $1.4 billion to $7.4 billion. It seeks areas with projected growth rates between 9% and 13%.

“Our vision is to set a new global standard in minimally invasive tissue ablation,” said Dr. Mickelsen. “It’s hard to ignore the transformative impact that PFA technologies have had on catheter ablation in the last five years. We will apply these lessons to address longstanding challenges outside the heart.

“We are entering a period of rapid acceleration in ablative therapies, much like the rise of PFA in electrophysiology. Del Medtech is poised to lead this wave, and we welcome investors and partners who want to be part of shaping the future of ablation.”
