Stealthy TheraNova spinout Piccolo Medical raises $2.3m

August 24, 2018 By Brad Perriello

Piccolo MedicalPiccolo Medical, a stealthy spinout from medical device incubator TheraNova, yesterday reported raising a funding round worth more than $2 million.

The San Francisco-based company, founded in 2016, is developing catheter navigation technology, according to its LinkedIn page. Founder & CEO Alexey Salamini (an Olympic gold medalist in rowing) also started Speech Buddies, which sells pediatric speech therapy devices and connects patients with speech therapists. Salamini also co-founded miraDry developer Miramar Labs, which was acquired for $20 million in cash and another $14 million in potential milestones last year by Sientra (NSDQ:SIEN).

The equity round, which launched August 12, involved 21 unnamed investors and aims to raise a total of $3.6 million, according to the filing.
