SS Innovations (Nasdaq:SSII) today announced the successful completion of the world’s first robotic telesurgery for weight loss with its Mantra 3 system.
The company states that the bariatric telesurgery spanned 560 miles between its headquarters in Gurugram, India, and the Mohak Bariatric & Robotic Surgery Centre in Indore, India. SS Innovations, which has its U.S. base in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, says the surgery had “zero perceptible lag, flawless precision and seamless robotic control.”
These procedures come about 15 months after the first telesurgery cases completed with Mantra in April 2024.
Procedures completed involved two one-anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) surgeries. Dr. Mohit Bhandari performed the surgeries, operating from Gurugram to lead his Indore-based surgical team.

SS Innovations develops the Mantra platform of surgical robots, with the latest version coming in the form of its Mantra 3. It hopes for approvals in the latter half of 2025. SS Innovations said in May that it expects to submit the system to the FDA this month.
The company completed the first robotic cardiac surgeries in the Americas with the system last month as well.
Mantra 3 provides capabilities for multi-specialty usage, including in cardiothoracic, head and neck, gynecology, urology, and general surgery.
The platform features a modular, 3D vision, open-console design with superior ergonomics. It engages machine learning models to improve safety and efficiency during procedures.
SS Innovations has installed 37 systems so far and reports more than 750 procedures using the current-generation platform, including 70 cardiac cases. It says more than 3,800 procedures overall have been completed with no device-related mortality, injury or complications.
The company began commercial sales in 2022 and aims to make robotic surgery more accessible, especially in emerging markets. The company said its system supports more than 40 types of robotic endosurgical instruments and has been used in more than 100 types of procedures in India alone.
