White Plains, New York-based Spectrum Vascular said the acquisition deepens a partnership focused on bringing next-generation catheter guidance technology to the market. It said the move marks a significant step forward in its mission to deliver a complete, differentiated vascular access solution.
Spectrum expects Augustus Shanahan, Piccolo’s CEO, to join the company alongside the legacy Piccolo team. It plans for the group to advance development and commercialization of Piccolo’s FDA-cleared catheter guidance and location products.
Piccolo’s real-time catheter guidance utilizes proprietary blood flow sensing technology. It precisely guides catheter tip placement, eliminating the need for confirmatory chest X-rays. The company also completed the first successful patient placements of its next-generation Nav+Stylet technology last month. Spectrum said this marked “the beginning of a new era in guided vascular access.”
Together, Spectrum and Piccolo hope to accelerate commercialization, deepen integration with Spectrum’s existing catheter portfolio, and scale the next-generation navigation platform.
