Spark Neuro announced that it appointed longtime Mayo Clinic neurologist Dr. Richard J. Caselli as its new medical director.
Caselli spent 35 years at the Mayo Clinic, a leading U.S. hospital system. He brings expertise and leadership in neurology and cognitive aging to Los Angeles-based Spark Neuro.
Spark Neuro develops brain health assessment services propelled by an AI-enabled, FDA-cleared EEG brain scan. The technology offers an objective, non-invasive and scalable approach to brain health assessment. It can provide a more accurate and efficient dementia diagnosis, the company says.
During his time at Mayo Clinic, Caselli and his team collaborated with Spark Neuro on several research initiatives funded by the NIH. The collaborations led to new methods in brain health measurement, including the company’s own FDA clearance.
“Dr. Caselli’s vast experience and achievements make him a tremendous asset to our mission, including enhancing solutions for patients with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia,” said CEO Spencer Gerrol, CEO.
Caselli’s career includes time spent as chair of Mayo Clinic’s Dept. of Neurology. He also served as medical director of patient experience and director of research there.
As clinical core director of the Arizona Alzheimer’s Disease Center, Caselli’s involvement led to significant contributions to the field, the company says.
“Joining Spark Neuro offers a unique opportunity to advance neurodiagnostics and brain health monitoring, building on our shared history of collaboration,” Caselli said.
