Shoulder Innovations launches new humeral stem

May 20, 2024 By Danielle Kirsh

Shoulder InnovationsShoulder Innovations today announced it launched its InSet 95 Humeral Stem.

The Grand Rapids, Michigan-based orthopedics company designed the device to enhance surgical outcomes and improve patient recovery for people with poor bone quality.

According to the company, its design includes a unique 2-fin design engineered for superior rotational control and stability. This allows for more precise implant alignment, which is important in achieving biomechanics in shoulder replacement surgery. The proximal design maintains the identical inlay humeral design characteristics already appreciated on the InSet Short Stem and Stemless implants.

“Surgeons have enjoyed the use of our InSet platform with best-in-class biomechanics and fixation properties. This additional product introduction provides for more robust options in the OR for surgeons, but maintains seamless and simple integration with the entire platform,” CEO Rob Ball said in a news release.

InSet 95 also has fixation capabilities. The proximal coating allows for reliable proximal fixation, while the strong metadiaphyseal fixation gives the implant additional support and longevity. The company said this fixation approach benefits patients with poor bone quality.

Shoulder Innovations’ InSet 95 is also fully and easily convertible to allow for conversion to a reverse shoulder arthroplasty without the risk of overstuffing. The feature preserves the desired inlay biomechanics.

“The I-95 stem greatly adds to Shoulder Innovations’ arsenal of innovative products,” said Dr. Mark Schrumpf, an orthopedic surheon at California Pacific Orthopedics. “It helps us as shoulder surgeons to better manage patients with poorer quality humeral bone, allowing us to address a greater breadth of patient pathologies as it relates to anatomic and reverse shoulder arthroplasty.”
