The companies aim to expand access to sleep health education and pathways to care to help people sleep better and improve overall health.
Resmed is a leader in continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The company has also recently moved into other areas, including more digital-focused health technology and recently a wearable therapy to treat drug-refractory Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) through an acquisition of Noctrix Health.
Oura develops the Oura Ring, a leading wearable device that provides metrics such as vital sign, sleep, stress, heart health and activity data.
What the partnership aims to accomplish
Resmed said insights from wearable devices like Oura Ring can help people better understand sleep patterns. This can encourage informed conversations with healthcare providers to learn more about potential sleep disorders, including OSA. The companies hope their partnership can help close the awareness gap and turn insight into action, according to a news release.
Oura members who experience a higher number of nighttime breathing disturbances can now easily connect to resources from Resmed. Those include educational materials and sleep assessments, as well as the option to connect with an independent healthcare provider and an informative guide to support discussions with providers.
Resmed said it hopes to reach individuals who may fail to recognize their sleep issues or engage with the healthcare system. Its resources can now reach users of the Oura Ring (Gen 3 and 4) who have an active Oura membership in the U.S.
This marks the latest coming together of more traditional medtech and wearable technologies like the Oura Ring. Dexcom has an ongoing partnership with Oura, too, to combine healthcare tracking with glucose monitoring. Abbott also recently invested in Whoop, another wearable maker with health tracking capabilities.
Commentary from Resmed and Oura officials
Dr. Carlos Nunez, chief medical officer of Resmed, said:
“We’re at an inflection point in how people engage with their sleep health, driven by rising awareness and more accessible technology. By partnering with Oura, we are turning insight into action by guiding people across their sleep health journey and making it easier for them to seek clinical evaluation and care if they have concerns about their sleep.”
Dr. Ricky Bloomfield, chief medical officer of Oura, said:
“High-quality sleep is one of the strongest foundations for long-term health, yet many people live for years with unrecognized sleep and breathing issues. By pairing Oura’s continuous insights into sleep and nighttime breathing with Resmed’s sleep expertise, we’re giving people clearer tools and education to spot when something might be off and to more easily access care so they can better understand and act on changes in their sleep health.”
