RapidPulse raises $48M for thrombectomy tech as Medtronic invests

RapidPulse announced today that it closed a $48 million Series B financing, with Medtronic among the investors participating.

Miami-based RapidPulse develops next-generation aspiration technology for treating acute ischemic stroke. Its latest funding adds to $10.5 million raised in 2022.

Medtronic co-led the funding round alongside TechWald Next S.p.A. and S3 Ventures. SBI Investment Company and Florida Opportunity fund also joined as new investors. Existing investors Santé Ventures, Syntheon (from which RapidPulse spun out), Hatteras Venture Partners, and Epidarex Capital rounded out the financing.

RapidPulse plans to use the funds to support the completion of its ongoing FDA investigational device exemption (IDE) study. The TURBO (thrombectomy using pulsed aspiration for reperfusion of brain occlusions) study evaluates its proprietary aspiration technology.

Additional uses of funds include expanding the company’s patented and proprietary technology platform. The company says it includes a full line of catheter sizes.

RapidPulse designed its aspiration technology to enhance clot engagement and removal through a controlled, cyclic aspiration approach. It plans for the TURBO study to support the platform’s U.S. regulatory pathway before pursuing other regulatory milestones.

The company expects its clinical momentum and new growth capital to help advance its clinical program and technology development in collaboration with leading stroke centers.

“This financing enables us to complete the TURBO study, expand clinical experience across leading stroke centers, and data permitting, seek FDA approval for the RapidPulse system,” said Sean McBrayer, CEO of RapidPulse. “We are particularly encouraged by the support of both leading financial investors and one of the largest medical technology companies in the world, Medtronic, reflecting growing recognition of the potential impact of our approach to stroke treatment.”
