Philips (NYSE:PHG) announced that it received FDA 510(k) clearance for its Smart Fit TorsoCardiac magnetic resonance (MR) 1.5T coil.

The Amsterdam-based company designed the lightweight, flexible MR coil to support high-quality imaging while improving workflow efficiency and patient comfort. It also holds CE mark approval in Europe.

Philips developed the coil to address the current challenges of performance and usability in MR imaging. Its patient-friendly, flexible design aims to deliver robust imaging performance. By closely conforming to the patient anatomy, the coil supports consistent positioning and reliable signal capture. This helps to enable high-quality imaging. across a wide range of patients.

Smart Fit TorsoCardiac has a lightweight construction for simplified handling to streamline workflows. The company said it supports radiology teams in managing increasing scan volumes without compromising diagnostic confidence.

Philips said its latest offering complements its cardiac MR portfolio, building on the recent FDA clearance for its SmartHeart cardiac MR suite. Using SmartSpeed Precise, the company’s dual-AI acceleration technology, the platform can increase imaging speed and maintain image quality.

The new coil also follows the February introduction of the Snuggle pediatric coil, another advance in MR imaging.

“By continuing to evolve coil design with a focus on targeted, application-specific solutions that enhance both performance and usability – alongside advances in AI-enabled software and clinical applications – Philips is helping to create a more connected and efficient MR platform that supports healthcare providers in delivering high-quality imaging in increasingly demanding environments,” the company said.
