- N.Y. Gov. taps Welch Allyn CEO for state development corp.
New York governor Andrew Cuomo named Welch Allyn Inc. CEO Julie Shimer as chair of the Empire State Development Corp. (ESDC). Shiner is a member of the Advanced Medical Technology Assn.’s board and chairs its international affairs subcommittee on emerging markets. "Her extensive experience in the upstate and downstate business communities will be essential to the reconstruction of New York’s economy," Gov. Cuomo said in prepared remarks. "Attracting and retaining business in New York is job number one, and Julie and the rest of the ESDC team will work tirelessly to make that happen," he said.

Willig brings with him a rich background of executive leadership experience in a variety of commercial roles and will oversee all sales activity in North America. MedCity News reports that the parent company of Edgepark Medical Supplies and Independence Medical has hired the former CEO of GE Lighting for its top spot. HGI Global Holdings said its appointment of Michael Petras Jr. as CEO is effective as of March 21, according to a statement from the company. HGI was purchased for $850 million last year by New York City private equity firms Clayton, Dubilier & Rice and Goldman Sachs’ GS Capital Partners. The CEO role has been vacant since then.
