Inside sources at healthcare giant Abbott (NYSE:ABT) revealed that there were new layoffs at the company’s Lake County, Ill., headquarters this week, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Few details were revealed about the cuts, but they appear to be tied to unconfirmed reports of layoffs earlier this year. Abbott has been making efforts to cut costs through "restructuring," and are the latest in a series of workforce reductions make in recent years.
The new layoffs follow cuts associated with last year’s AbbVie spinout and others announced alongside a lowered financial outlook in October 2012.
"We’re taking various actions to reduce expenses," Abbott spokesman Scott Stoffel told the Tribune. "We’re making some staffing adjustments in different places reflecting the strategic needs of our business."
Abbott representatives were not immediately available for comment.
