The medtech giant’s artificial intelligence (AI)-powered surgical video management and analytics platform for the operating room (OR) offers surgeons a performance-improving tool as well as a method to train others. It will be added to Vizient’s platforms, which serve more than half of the nation’s healthcare providers.
Medtronic’s Touch Surgery Enterprise works with laparoscopic and robotic scopes to help hospitals take a step toward digitizing their OR while utilizing existing equipment. The system has compatibility with Medtronic’s Hugo robot-assisted surgery system.
Touch Surgery Enterprise automatically records surgical video. Then, it delivers it to the cloud, offering a way for surgeons to review specific steps while also being useful for training purposes.
“Touch Surgery Enterprise allows surgeons to use data to refine the way surgery is taught and executed, and we believe that will raise the standard of healthcare for all,” Medtronic VP and GM of Digital Surgery within the Surgical Robotics business George Murgatroyd said in a news release. “This agreement with Vizient allows us to build on the strong interest we’re seeing globally, to support hospitals in the U.S. who are looking to harness the power of surgical video data and analysis.”
Vizient, a healthcare services company, provides data-driven solutions, expertise and collaborative opportunities that lead to improved patient outcomes and lower costs, according to its website. The company serves more than half of acute care providers in the U.S., spanning academic medical centers, community hospitals and pediatric facilities, while it also serves a number of non-acute care providers.
“Vizient’s mission is to help our member providers deliver high-value care to the patients they serve. Our ability to evolve relationships with our suppliers is a critical piece to the equation as we look to deliver on a more comprehensive value proposition in the market,” Vizient SVP of Strategic Supplier Performance & Category Management Bryan Grossman said. “Touch Surgery Enterprise aligns with our mission, offering our members the ability to analyze surgical processes that can help advance patient care.”
