The company said in a LinkedIn post that it invested $60 million in the new IT center, which is located at the Medtronic Engineering and Innovation Center in Hyderabad.
Medtronic expects to hire around 300 new employees over the next three to five years at the center. That would make it one of the medtech giant’s largest IT facilities outside the U.S.
The new IT hub focuses on cutting-edge technologies like cloud engineering, data platforms, digital health applications, hyper-automation and AI/ML.
“We look forward to continuing our efforts to collaborate and deliver on our mission to alleviate pain, restore health and extend life for our patients across the world,” Medtronic said on LinkedIn.
In 2021, Medtronic announced the inauguration of the newly expanded 150,000-square-foot center in Hyderabad. The company spent $160 million over five years to turn Hyderabad into its largest R&D center outside the U.S. At the time, it expected the number of employees at the facility to reach 1,000.
The latest inauguration in Hyderabad featured appearances from significant figures in India, including the Honorable Minister for IT, Industries and Commerce, Government of Telangana, Shri D Sridhar Babu, U.S. Consul General Jennifer Larson, Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (ITE&C) and Industries & Commerce Departments of Government of Telangana, Shakthi M Nagappan, Director, Lifesciences & Pharma, Govt. of Telangana, V. Madhusudan CEO, TGIIC along with Rashmi Kumar, SVP and CIO of Medtronic and Divya Prakash J.,VP & Site Leader, MEIC.
