Massachusetts medical device maker Medrobotics won CE Mark approval in the European Union for its Flex System, a robot-assisted surgical device indicated for use in otolaryngology surgery.
The company, originally known as Cardiorobotics, calls its Flex device the "first robot-assisted flexible endoscopic platform for use during surgical procedures." The technology provides deep visualization and flexible surgical instruments for viewing and accessing hard-to-reach anatomical sites.
Medrobotics plans to initiate a limited commercial launch in select European markets, according to a press release.
The company in March last year raised $10 million in support of its technology, adding to the $33.6 million Series D round it collected in 2011.
