The company (formerly ReWalk Robotics) now plans to begin sales of the new, enhanced system in the U.S. Lifeward said it made the system available for personal use and in the clinical setting. It received FDA 510(k) clearance for the seventh-generation system last month.
ReWalk 7 includes a number of new features, enhancements and upgrades to provide a more functional and personalized walking experience for individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). Those include cloud connectivity and customizable walking speeds for users.
According to the company, the new exoskeleton features smoother movement and seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor environments. A Crutch Control feature enables more control for the user, as they can stand, walk, select speeds and stop by touching a single button. New Wrist Control via smartwatch and the MyReWalk mobile app make it easier for users to select operation modes, set goals and track usage, too.
Lifeward says the new system allows users to walk longer and more often with an improved battery and seamless activation of stairs and curbs. Additionally, the all-new therapist handheld device and click-to-stop control enables safer, more effective progression to optimal gait patterns.
The latest milestone follows a series of positive steps for Lifeward following its 2024 rebrand to “Lifeward” to expand its portfolio. Larry Jasinski, CEO of Lifeward, spoke to MassDevice last year about the benefits of the rebrand.
Last year, the company hit milestones, including a national reimbursement policy from CMS, which followed 2023 clearance for the ReWalk 6.0 system for use on stairs and curbs.
