Interventional Systems, ProVoyance ink robotic navigation partnership

Interventional Systems announced today that it entered into a strategic platform partnership with ProVoyance.

The partnership aims to explore and develop integrated robotic navigation capabilities. It pairs two FDA-cleared platforms in Interventional Systems’ Micromate and ProVoyance’s AI-enabled preoperative planning software. Together, the companies hope to deliver seamless, end-to-end solutions for OEM partners and the surgeons and patients they serve.

Micromate uses cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), fluoro CT or a fluoroscope for percutaneous needle intervention.

Micromate in 2023 became the first needle-based intervention robot available in the U.S. with compatibility for both fluoroscopy and CT. The platform first received clearance as a table-mounted medical robot for interventional procedures in June 2021. The company touted it as the world’s smallest robot for the percutaneous kind.

The companies plan to co-develop solutions that improve accuracy, streamline workflows and expand access to robotic navigation across surgical care settings. OEM partners can now build on two already-cleared platforms, reducing time, cost and regulatory risk in the product development cycle.

Commentary from Interventional Systems and ProVoyance officials

Pedro Costa, chief strategy officer, Interventional Systems, said:

“We are enthusiastic about the possibility of partnering with experts such as ProVoyance, as it further reinforces both companies’ commitment to exploring synergies, with both humility and ambition. The integration of ProVoyance’s intelligent surgical planning with our differentiated approach to robotics is a force multiplier for OEM partners aiming to integrate cost-effective yet cutting-edge enabling technologies into their portfolios”

Mark Johnson, EVP of sales and business development, ProVoyance, said:

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Interventional Systems — a team that shares our conviction that the future of orthopedic surgery is intelligent, mobile, and accessible. Micromate’s cleared, mobile robotic platform will transform ProVoyance into a complete, validated end-to-end workflow that OEM partners can integrate and bring to market with confidence. We built ProVoyance to make intelligent surgical planning accessible at scale, and this partnership is the clearest signal yet that we are delivering on that promise.”
