Indiana Gov. Mitchell Daniels won’t be running for the GOP nomination in 2012, but his name still draws water for medical device makers, who picked him to address the annual conference of the country’s largest medical device industry council.
The Advanced Medical Technology Assn. said today that the governor of the Hoosier State will be a featured speaker at AdvaMed 2011, the council’s annual fall gathering.
Former President George W. Bush is set to give the keynote address at the event. Daniels served as Bush’s Director of the Office of Management & Budget during his first term, before winning in Indiana in 2004.
Indiana is home to a large cluster of medical device companies in and around the Warsaw area, including orthopedic powerhouses Zimmer Holding, Inc. (NYSE:ZMH) and DePuy Orthopaedics, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ).
Daniels pulled his name out of the list of GOP nominees last month, citing the wishes of his family as the primary reason he would not run for president.
