GE HealthCare, Mayo Clinic collab on radiation therapy, advanced cancer care

December 4, 2025 By Sean Whooley

GE HealthCare Mayo ClinicGE HealthCare (Nasdaq: GEHC) announced today that it entered into a new collaboration with Mayo Clinic centered around cancer care.

GEMINI-RT is the new GE HealthCare-Mayo Clinic Initiative in Radiation Therapy. It aims to transform personalized radiation therapy and cancer care.

The new agreement builds on decades of collaboration, while also adding to an original radiology research collaboration inked in 2023. Together, GE HealthCare and Mayo Clinic aim to drive innovation in prediction, planning, automation, workflow and monitoring for radiation oncology.

GEMINI-RT combines Mayo Clinic’s clinical and research expertise with GE healthCare’s technical and engineering innovation. They intend to explore integrating imaging, advanced therapies, dosimetry and patient monitoring at every step of the patient journy. This effort aims to deliver comprehensive, personalized care through streamlined, data-driven solutions.

“GEMINI-RT is grounded in the concept of ‘twinning the patient, personalizing the beam’—a transformative approach made possible by Mayo Clinic’s extensive clinical expertise and outcomes data,” said Dr. Bryan Traughber, vice chair, innovation for radiation oncology, Mayo Clinic. “The combination of research and technological acumen could allow us to model individual patient journeys with precision, enabling radiation therapy treatments that are truly tailored to each patient.”

More about the collaboration between GE HealthCare and Mayo Clinic

The collaboration focuses on efforts across four strategic areas: automation, predictive oncology, multi-modal therapies and connected care.

In automation, GE HealthCare and Mayo Clinic plan to work on AI-powered solutions that eliminate repetitive tasks. These solutions can also accelerate treatment planning. For predictive oncology, they want to harness clinical insights, personalizing cancer treatment decisions and improving outcomes.

GEMINI-RT also aims to explore approaches that combine radiation with emerging treatments. Those include targeted drugs and precision heating, enabling more effective care. Finally, using AI, biomarkers and sensors, the collaboration seeks to monitor patients beyond the clinic, enabling connected care to predict side effects early and support at-home treatment.

Research and activities will be based at Mayo Clinic’s Rochester, Minnesota, campus.

“This effort enables us to collaborate on solutions that are not only leading-edge but also clinically meaningful, helping shape the future of personalized radiation therapy. By integrating innovative technology and AI across the care continuum, we can improve clinician experience, support high-quality patient care, and help reduce burnout among care teams,” said Dr. Ben Newton, global head of Oncology, GE Healthcare.
