1. Swiss Advanced Vision seeks $21m for auto-focus IOL
Swiss Advanced Vision is looking to raise some $21 million for its R-TASC program to develop a wireless, auto-focus intra-ocular lens.
The Real-Time Auto-focus Servo Control project aims to use an energy capture system to allow the lens to automatically focus on an object, fitted alongside a monofocal lens for distant vision. The company said it wants to raise 20 million Swiss francs over five years to back the program, with the goal of commercialization in five to 10 years.
“SAV-IOL is the only Swiss manufacturer of IOLs, with a reputation built on innovation, quality, and precision. R-TASC expands our current R&D capabilities and has the potential to disrupt the entire IOL market. This is an opportunity to totally transform patients vision after cataract surgery and beyond,” CEO Max Boysset said in prepared remarks.
