San Diego-based Dexcom first announced the addition of this capability in March. The official launch makes G7 the first and only CGM available with a direct-to-Apple-Watch feature, according to Dexcom. It offers users the freedom and convenience of real-time glucose readings even without an iPhone readily available.
In addition to the U.S., Dexcom says it made the feature available in the UK and Ireland. It expects launches in additional markets to come later this month.
Dexcom’s G7 uses its own dedicated Bluetooth connection to send glucose information and personalized alerts directly to an Apple Watch. This allows users to go for a run or enjoy social activities while feeling confident leaving their iPhone behind. G7 can now display glucose readings on multiple devices simultaneously and independently. Those include a smartphone, smart watch, receiver or connected automated insulin delivery system.
