DePuy Synthes — a Johnson & Johnson Medtech (NYSE: JNJ) business that is one of the largest orthopedic device companies in the world— recently announced plans to establish a new Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bangalore, India.
The GCC will bring together technology, data and business capabilities to advance clinical innovation and operational excellence for patients, surgeons and healthcare partners around the world, the company said in a news release last week.
The center will host disciplines including software development, data & AI, enterprise applications, technology services, cybersecurity and more upon launch.
“India is one of the fastest-growing markets in the world for orthopedic care, and this investment deepens our long-term commitment to patients, surgeons and colleagues here, ” said Namal Nawana, worldwide president of DePuy Synthes.
According to Grand View Research, India is the fastest-growing regional market for orthopedic devices in Asia Pacific and is projected to reach $3.03 billion by 2030. Zimmer Biomet, a DePuy competitor, has its own GCC in Bangalore, which opened in April of this year.
Over the next 18 to 24 months, DePuy Synthes expects to build a team of approximately 500 professionals in Bangalore, with room to grow as the center matures. Nicholas Parrotta, chief information officer of DePuy Synthes, will lead the center with support from technology leaders who will support the planning, establishment and future operations of the center.
Jai Ganesh, DePuy Synthes CTO, will provide leadership for technology engineering, architecture, infrastructure, cybersecurity engineering and digital platforms.
Nagaraj Bhat, GCC Leader, DePuy Synthes, will assist in the establishment of local operations and its leadership team.
The center is expected to be established in phases, with initial operational activities, including recruitment starting in August 2026.
Johnson & Johnson is reportedly working toward selling DePuy Synthes Orthopaedics. The company announced plans to separate its DePuy Synthes business last October. Bloomberg reported DePuy Synthes’ value could exceed $20 billion.
