CMR Surgical reports more than 30,000 patients treated with Versius surgical robot

CMR Surgical today announced that more than 30,000 surgical cases around the world have been completed using its Versius system.

The company said this milestone solidifies Versius’ position as the second-most utilized soft-tissue surgical robot on the market.

CMR Surgical designed Versius to enable surgeons to perform more minimal access surgery. Its minimally invasive approach assists surgeons in accessing the lungs, thymus and esophagus. The system won FDA clearance in October. CMR Surgical also launched enhancements for the system, including the Ultrasonic Dissector, late last year.

The small-scale surgical robotic system features collaborative arms and bedside units for direct patient access. It also features offers of port placement to best suit the needs of each patient. CMR Surgical aims for Versius to biomimic the human arm. It features 3D HD vision, easy-to-adopt instrument control and a choice of ergonomic working positions. Its open console could potentially reduce stress and fatigue while allowing for clear communication with the surgical team.

CMR Surgical said more than 70% of hospitals that utilized Versius for these cases used it across two or more specialties. Its uses extend to urology, general surgery, gynecology and thoracic surgery. The company also has clinical trials underway for pediatric surgery and in transoral robotic surgery (TORS) in the UK.
