Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) announced the release of the Alice PDx Portable Sleep System. The Alice PDx is a diagnostic recording device with advanced features intended for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) diagnosis and follow-up, and the diagnostic assessment of cardio-respiratory sleep disorders.
Judge bars injunction against Covidien in Kimberly-Clark patent case
A federal judge shot down Kimberly-Clark Worldwide Inc.‘s motion to bar Covidien (formerly Tyco Healthcare Group LP) from selling endotracheal tubes in a patent case filed in Wisconsin.
Judge William Griesbach of the U.S. District Court for Eastern Wisconsin ruled that an injunction would not be in the public interest because it would deny patients access to their doctors’ preferred treatment:

The Cambridge-based respiratory devices maker went behind the scenes for NBC’s mega-hit “The Biggest Loser: Couples” to provide equipment, testing, treatment and therapy for the weight-loss show’s contestants’ obstructive sleep apnea.
Covidien breathes a little easier
They’re breathing a little easier at Mansfield-based Covidien Ltd. after the federal Food and Drug Administration approved the medical devices giant’s newest pulse oximeter.
Covidien‘s OxiMax SPD alert system answers the rising demand for continuous pulse oximetry monitors, especially for patients on powerful pain medication, company officials said.
The device uses an algorithm to detect patterns of reduced oxygen saturation in patients’ blood, which can indicate that a ventilator is compromised.
Pulmatrix raises $3 million in funding
Mass High Tech is reporting that Pulmatrix Inc., a Lexington-based biotechnology startup that’s developing inhaled therapies for respiratory infectious diseases, raised $3.5 million.
The company, which isn’t speaking publicly about the financing and only recently came out of stealth mode, is another Robert Langer company financed by Polaris Ventures of Waltham.
