Kelsey joins the wound care management company with more than two decades of executive legal experience in M&A, securities, and governance. She was most recently the chief legal officer and secretary for Amyris and has also held legal counsel roles at Medtronic and Criteo.
“Nicole is a proven executive with extensive experience developing global regulatory and compliance programs,” CEO Jim Corbett said in a news release. “As we continue to scale and broaden our organizational capabilities, Nicole’s international expertise and strategic leadership will enhance our legal and compliance strategies and support our commercial growth initiatives.”
Kelsey replaces Donna Shiroma, who is retiring after six years. Shiroma will be assisting with the transition.
“We are incredibly grateful to Donna for her expertise and leadership, which have been instrumental to the growth of Avita Medical,” Corbett said. “Donna’s commitment and contributions have left an indelible mark. We express our deepest appreciation and wish her all the best in retirement.”
The new appointment follows a few recent milestones for the company. On May 30, Avita Medical won FDA approval for its Recell Go System. This next-gen autologous cell harvesting device uses the regenerative properties of a patient’s skin to treat thermal burn wounds and full-thickness skin defects. Less than a month ago, the company reported the first patients were treated with Recell Go.
Avita Medical had revenues of $11.1 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2024 and anticipates commercial revenue for the second quarter to be between $14.3 and $15.3 million. Full-year 2024 commercial revenue is estimated to be between $78.5 and $84.5 million.
