NeuroMetrix is reshuffling the deck in an effort to recover from the $3.7 million it spent to settle a federal kickbacks beef and its dismal results for fiscal 2008.

The Waltham-based nerve testing equipment maker is restructuring its U.S. sales operation into three divisions and saying goodbye to former VP of diagnostics device sales Monty Hukill.

Bruker Daltonics opened a demonstration facility for its new, ultra-high resolution time-of-flight maXis mass spectrometer.

The Billerica mass spectrometry equipment maker also said it installed the devices, which it says bridge the gap between ultra-high mass resolution and fast UHPLC separations, in several research labs in the U.S. including the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and the University of Illinois at Urbana.

Bruker Daltonics is a division of Bruker Corp., a Billerica-based scientific instruments manufacturer.

The New England economy is still in a tailspin, according to the Federal Reserve Bank’s “beige book” report, with the exception of the region’s biotech industry.

Most manufacturers reported year-over-year revenue declines, according to the report, and almost all said they expect first-quarter sales to come in below last year’s levels.

But biopharmaceutical sales are still on the upswing, growing at a double-digit clip, and manufacturers of innovative products (like medical devices) reported that exports are holding their own compared with last year.

And although about half of the company’s surveyed by the Fed reported laying off workers or cutting back hours, the biotech sector is on track for employment growth.

Solos Endoscopy Inc. passed muster during an inspection by the federal Food and Drug administration, earning a “No Action Indicated” mark from the agency.

The Boston-based device maker, which manufactures endoscopic instrumentation and medical imaging products, said the FDA found no problems during its Level II baseline inspection.
