Aerin Medical announced that it launched its next-generation RhinAer device for treating chronic rhinitis.

Mountain View, California–based Aerin also said UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare Advantage policy now covers RhinAer for the treatment of the posterior nasal nerve, effective immediately.

The company’s RhinAer+ next-generation device treats the PNN and targets multiple anatomic contributors to chronic rhinitis. A temperature- and impedance-controlled radiofrequency device, it features a stylus to enhance procedural efficiency and patient comfort. This latest launch comes more than three years after the company launched a previous version of the RhinAer stylus.

Aerin says its new enhancements include an atraumatic tip that improves access and visibility. The stylus also has a reinforced, malleable shaft that provides tactile feel for tissue apposition and greater support in challenging anatomy. It also has an ergonomic handle for control in bilateral treatment.

“The development of this product was guided by extensive physician feedback, informed by RhinAer experience in over 50,000 cases, and leveraged a proven platform characterized in 20 peer-reviewed publications,” said Matt Brokaw, president and CEO of Aerin Medical. “With expanded coverage from Cigna and UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage and multiple multi-year studies confirming sustained results with RhinAer technology, we’re seeing continued validation from both the clinical and payor communities.”

Aerin Medical featured on Medical Design & Outsourcing’s list of 20 medical device startups you need to know back in 2020.
