
The Aveir VR Mini ventricular leadless pacemaker is 32.5 mm long, a 14% reduction from the 38.0 mm of the existing Aveir VR ventricular leadless pacemaker. According to Abbott, it designed the system to deliver longevity in a smaller form factor. (Medtronic’s competing Micra leadless pacemaker is 25.9 mm long.)
Along with the Aveir AR2 atrial leadless pacemaker, the Aveir VR Mini represents the next generation of the Aveir DR LP system, a dual-chamber leadless pacemaker. Powered by Abbott’s i2i (implant-to-implant) in-body communication technology, the Aveir DR system enables beat-to-beat communication between two leadless pacemakers to maintain synchronous heart activation. The first version of Aveir DR was implanted in clinical trials in 2022, with FDA approval coming the following year.
