Abbott (NYSE:ABT) is reportedly shutting down a Puerto Rico manufacturing plant, with an unspecified number of employees slated for termination.
The plant in question resides in a city called Barceloneta, and the facility houses pharmaceutical, diagnostics, biotechnology and vascular intervention development, according to Abbott’s website. Local mayor Wanda Soler told reporters that the closing facility is the smallest of Abbott’s offices in the town.
The news marks the 3rd reported layoffs for Abbott this week, with rumors circulating of unconfirmed cuts at the company’s Illinois headquarters and at a trio of Irish plants.
Abbott confirmed the closure but declined to comment on any layoffs, telling the Associated Press that the company employs about 1,500 total in Puerto Rico.
The company did not immediate return requests for comment.
