Keith Boettiger, President, Abbott Heart Failure, shared the news of Kormos’ retirement on LinkedIn today.
“For the last five years in Heart Failure, we’ve been fortunate to have Dr. Robert Kormos helping to guide our approach to innovation and patient care,” he wrote. “Bob has long been a pillar in the mechanical circulatory support community, and his perspectives on patient care, the evolution of mechanical circulatory support and emerging therapy approaches have been profoundly important to our Heart Failure business at Abbott.
“Now, after an amazing 40-plus-year career that impacted thousands of people’s lives around the globe, Bob has announced his decision to retire.”
Kormos joined Abbott as divisional VP for Heart Failure in September 2019. He made many stops over the course of his career, with his longest stint coming over 26 years at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. There, he spent 10 years as director of thoracic transplantation while also serving as director of UPMC’s artificial heart program from 1990 to 2006.
