Surgical robotics competition has climbed to new levels now that Medtronic, the world’s largest medical device company, has entered the U.S. soft-tissue robotic surgery market to take on Intuitive’s da Vinci robots.
Johnson & Johnson MedTech isn’t far behind with its Ottava robots, and a host of smaller companies — including CMR Surgical out of the U.K., SS Innovations out of India, and Distalmotion out of Switzerland — have entered or are entering the U.S. market with their own multiport systems.
Amid all of the increased competition, the global robotic surgery market will exceed $22.2 billion by 2029, according to the 2026 edition of MassDevice‘s Surgical Robotics Special Report.
