Varian Medical lands FDA clearance for treatment software

Varian Medical Systems wins 510(k) clearance from the FDA for its RapidPlan treatment planning software for radiation oncology.

Varian Medical (NYSE:VAR) said it won 510(k) clearance from the FDA for its RapidPlan treatment planning software.

The RapidPlan system is designed to enhance radiotherapy quality, consistency and efficiency by providing clinics with high-quality personalized treatment plans for patients, according to a press release.

"The system will also enable benchmarking by allowing us to compare our treatment plans to models created by communities of experts from around the globe. RapidPlan was designed to allow for creation of high quality, world class treatment plans anywhere," Varian's vice president for medical affairs Dee Khuntia said in prepared remarks.
