At least 95 Texas medical device workers are slated to lose their jobs by the end of the year as medtech companies Zimmer (NYSE:ZMH) and Getinge (PINK:GETI B) look to streamline their operations in the region.

Zimmer's spinal business announced that it would close an Austin facility by the end of July, leaving the fate of the approximately 100 employees there up in the air.

The company told reporters that some of the workers would be given the chance to relocate to Minneapolis, Minn., but didn't say how many, the Statesman reported.

Zimmer told the news outlet that the closings and subsequent shuffling were in efforts to "streamline its business."

Swedish medical device company Getinge also announced this week that it will shutter the doors on a San Antonio plant, moving production to plants in Poland and China, My San Antonio reported.

The closure will results in 95 jobs before the end of September 2013, and Getinge plans to put the property, valued at about $4.8 million, up for sale.
