Zoll Medical Corp. (NSDQ:ZOLL) landed a lucrative deal as the British Heart Foundation’s exclusive supplier for automated external defibrillators.
The Billerica, Mass.-based resuscitation products maker said its new contract could exceed $2 million over its three-year course.
The company’s AED Plus and AED Pro devices will supply the BHF’s program to equip U.K. communities with public defibrillators. Both the AED Plus and AED Pro automatically deliver defibrillatory shocks and offer spoken instructions to help rescuers provide manual CPR.
“One in three people who experience sudden cardiac arrest die before reaching the hospital. Experts believe these figures could be reduced drastically if there were more defibrillators in public places,” BHF community resuscitation lead Claire O’Neill said in prepared remarks. Only about 5 percent of sudden cardiac arrest victims survive in the U.K.
Zoll posted strong second-quarter results, reporting a 15.5 percent increase in revenues and a 105 percent surge in Q2 profits during the three months ended March 31.
