Zoll Medical Corp. (NSDQ:ZOLL) won 510(k) clearance from the Food and Drug Administration for a new version of its E Series defibrillator that monitors for carbon monoxide.
The new defibrillators, used by firefighters and other emergency medical responders, incorporate CO-Oximetry carbon monoxide measurement made by Masimo Corp. (NSDQ:MASI). Zoll said the new devices will hit the market immediately.
Carbon monoxide poisoning can cause flu-like symptoms — or none at all — and even a mild exposure can cause confusion. Prolonged or consistent exposure can lead to death or permanent neurological and cardiac damage, according to a press release from Zoll.
