Zimmer Holdings Inc. (NYSE:ZMH) is closing out 2010 in style, acquiring a pair of companies in the last week.
The Warsaw Ind.-based orthopedic device maker picked up surgical power tool manufacturer Sodem Diffusion S.A.
Zimmer plans to rename Sodem as Zimmer Surgical S.A. and consolidate it under the auspices of Dover, Ohio-based Zimmer Surgical. Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Adding SoPlus’s innovative small and large bone product lines to our portfolio will expand our offerings in the orthopedic power equipment market,” Zimmer Surgical president Mark Dorris said in prepared remarks.
Geneva, Switzerland-based Sodem Diffusion’s product offering includes the SoPlus Universal large bone system and the SoPlus Ultra small bone system and their related consumables, according to the company.
Two days before Zimmer announced the deal, the company closed its acquisition of China-based powered surgical instrument and joint prosthesis manufacturer Beijing Montagne Medical Device Co. Ltd.
The surgical power tool market is worth about $1 billion, according to Zimmer.
