PRESS RELEASE
XStor Systems, Inc., a provider of next-generation, specialty-specific digital imaging storage and connectivity solutions for radiology, pathology, and oncology, announced today that Sanjaya Kumar, MD has joined the company as Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Kumar, a pioneer in the areas of healthcare informatics and clinical business intelligence, will also serve on the company’s board of directors.
For more than 15 years Dr. Sanjaya Kumar pioneered the development of clinical informatics based solutions to improve the safety, quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery in the US. In 1997, he founded Quantros, Inc., and introduced software solutions that enabled real-time management of patient safety, compliance, and quality improvement initiatives. Under Dr. Kumar’s visionary leadership, Quantros grew to be a recognized leader in web-based healthcare data management and decision support solutions. At the time of the company’s sale in late 2010 to Francisco Partners, Quantros products were in use by more than 2,300 U.S. healthcare facilities.
Dr. Kumar is a frequent speaker at national and international healthcare conferences, and is widely published in peer-reviewed medical journals. He is the author of two books, Fatal Care: Survive in the U.S. Health System, and Demand Better! Revive Our Broken Healthcare System which is co-authored with Dr. David Nash.
In joining XStor Systems, Dr. Kumar says he is poised once again to be at the forefront of an emerging healthcare technology initiative: digital image storage management, retrieval, archival, connectivity, and collaboration.
“Many of the concepts we brought to market at Quantros were new, including real-time safety and quality monitoring, as well as compliance readiness. Today they are standard practices in many hospitals,” said Kumar. “Likewise, XStor Systems is leading the way in the management of medical images, a market which is rapidly growing and will require specialized solutions that enable clinicians to store, access and share these images and accompanying data, securely and in real-time. XStor Systems has a strong product portfolio and is poised to expand. I’m excited to help lead its growth.”
“Dr. Kumar has demonstrated the ability to identify emerging markets in healthcare and deliver advanced solutions that meet continually evolving marketplace demands,” said Syed Hamdani, President and CEO of XStor Systems. “We are highly energized by the addition of Dr. Kumar to our experienced leadership team.”
In addition to Dr. Kumar, XStor has a world-renowned advisory group comprised of information technology visionaries who have built successful, industry leading enterprises. This includes Dr. Marty Tenenbaum, an Internet commerce pioneer and the founder of CommerceNet and CollabRx where his focus is on transforming healthcare and accelerating therapy development through collaborative e-science.
“Dr. Kumar knows healthcare informatics and where it is going,” said Dr. Tenenbaum. “He also knows how to build successful companies which have the capacity to bring expertise and solutions to customers to improve how they function.”
