X2 Biosystems said today it launched its X2 head impact management system designed to monitor head impacts and study cumulative brain damage due to repetitive sub-concussive head-impacts.
The X2 system includes a wearable impact sensor, an impact data management app and an integrated concussion evaluation app used for baseline testing, post-impact sideline assessments and return-to-play montoring by the NFL, NHL and Major League Soccer, the company said.
The newly released sensors, designed to be worn behind the ear with an adhesive strip, are smaller, lighter and more accurate than the previous generation, X2 said. The patches record head impacts and send data via Bluetooth to the IDM app.
“With the next generation X-Patch Pro wearable head impact sensor and data management platform, X2 is taking several significant steps to help maintain the health and performance of athletes and soldiers by limiting head impact exposure to levels below observable damage thresholds,” CEO John Ralston said in a prepared release.
The X2 ICE app is designed for baseline testing and post-impact assessments of an individual’s neurocognitive performance, the company said. All data from the apps are saved to X2’s cloud platform, X2 added.
