Wright Medical transformed in a company-wide overhaul in 2013. Wright sold off its hip and knee business this year for $290M to the Hong Kong-based MicroPort Scientific and purchased BioMimetic Therapeutics for $390M after a year of stalled negotiations. The company makes orthopedic and biologic devices for extremity repair and reconstruction and also makes surgical solutions for the foot and ankle market. Reconstructive devices are used to replace or repair joints and bones that have deteriorated or have been damaged through disease or injury. Biologics are used to replace damaged or diseased bone, to stimulate bone growth and to provide other biological solutions for surgeons and their patients.
