
World Heart Corp. (NSDQ:WHRT) appointed Dr. Monica Hope to be its vice president clinical affairs.
The Salt Lake City-based circulatory-support device maker said Hope will be charged with conducting the current and future clinical trials of its products.
Hope is the former director of clinical affairs at Sylmar, Calif.-based Second Sight Medical Products Inc., a retinal prosthesis developer, and has held leadership roles at various medical device companies including Micromed Cardiovascular, Ventracor Ltd. and Sirtex Medical Ltd., according to a press release.
The Food & Drug Administration gave a nod last month to World Heart’s expansion of a clinical trial examining itss Levacor ventricular assist device. The company is adding 10 additional sites to its bridge-to-transplant pivotal trial, taking the total number of eligible sites to 20. In June, Mass. General Hospital and a pair of hospitals in Kentucky and Florida joined the study.
