WellAir announced today that it has acquired UV Innovators in a deal that combines WellAir’s FDA-cleared portable air cleaning system with UV Innovators’ medical-grade handheld UVC disinfection technology.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Todd Pope, who has been executive chairman of Cary, N.C.–based UV Innovators since 2017, has been appointed CEO of Dublin, Ireland–based WellAir.
“Combining UVI’s handheld surface disinfecting device with WellAir’s best-in-class air cleaning platform creates a unique, broad-spectrum and highly scalable solution to enable safe, healthy, and productive spaces for all individuals,” WellAir’s board chair Bill McCabe said in a news release.
Pope has 30 years of medtech and leadership experience and is an operating partner at Revival Healthcare Capital. He served as the CEO of robotic surgery company TransEnterix for 11 years, until 2019.
“His experience bringing innovative medical technologies to market on a global scale will be invaluable as we look to fulfill our mission to protect indoor spaces for all individuals,” McCabe said.
The COVID-19 pandemic has put a spotlight on the need for improved, high-powered chemical-free disinfection and air purification technologies, according to Pope.
“The combination of these two companies creates a broad, innovative solution to meet the needs of organizations and industries around the world to enable safer living, working, and healing spaces,” Pope said.
