Positive ID unveils stand-alone wireless diabetes tool: PositiveID Corp. (NSDQ:PSID) finished developing a stand-alone device for relaying portable glucose meter readings to an online database. The unit is designed not to require a computer so that users can simply log their readings and shoot them up straight to the server for doctor’s review. The iglucose system operates without the use of a cell phone or personal computer, automatically queries data-capable glucometers and sends that data via wireless technology to an online database, according to the company. Positive ID expects to submit its application to the Food & Drug Administration for 510(k) clearance during the second quarter.

SMS helps smokers quit: Studies: Researchers at the University of Oregon and UCLA conducted studies that indicate that text messaging (SMS) is an effective and low-cost way to measure and intervene in urges that people have during smoking cessation programs. The two studies used a of 27 heavy smokers recruited from the American Lung Association’s Freedom From Smoking program in Los Angeles.

(OTC:ISCR) migrated its recently patent pending MD@Hand and MD@Work electronic medical record technologies for installation on tablet computers.
