Weekly Wireless Roundup: LifeBot develops tablet for pre-hospital patient care

February 9, 2011 By MassDevice Contributors Network

LifeBot develops tablet for prehospital patient care: LifeBot LLC implemented the HP Slate 500 as an in-ambulance computer and universal communication device. The tablet runs Windows 7 and can transmit live patient data to the receiving hospital via the DREAMS software, which was developed with U.S. Army Materiel Command, Texas A&M and UTHealth Science Center at Houston, according to the company. The Tempe, Ariz.-based company loses points from us for not getting “HIPAA” right (talk about noncompliant). But MedGagdet likes how they sidestep the issue of “tablet delicacy” that concerns iPad owners in the healthcare realm.

handyscope makes professional dermatoscopes out of iPhones: The handyscope is an optical attachment and an accompanying app that converts an Apple Inc. (NSDQ:AAPL) iPhone into a practical dermatoscope. The attachment provides up to 20x magnification for the phone’s camera and illuminates the skin with polarized light thanks to built-in LEDs and internal batteries. The app is used to store and examine encrypted images, as well as for sharing with other dermatologists for second opinions.

Novo Nordisk develops mobile app to help docs diagnose bleeding disorders: Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:NVO) launched Coags Uncomplicated — the first mobile app to assist in the diagnosis of bleeding disorders — created in partnership with Craig Kessler, MD, Professor of Medicine and Pathology and Director of the Coagulation Laboratory, Georgetown University Hospital, Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Coags Uncomplicated features a Lab Value Analyzer that enables physicians to input test results and receive a list of potential diagnoses to consider including a description of each bleeding disorder and typical lab values. The app also provides step-by-step suggestions for appropriate lab tests to narrow possible diagnoses. Novo Nordisk

Available EMR apps on Android Market reaches five: Healthcare IT is still in its very early stages as far as the Android platform is concerned, but there are now a total of five EHR and EMR applications for phones running the Google (NSDQ:GOOG) smartphone operating system, according to EMR Daily News.
