iPads the focus of Stanford med school workshop:
Last year Stanford medical school embraced the Apple iPad as a tool for students to use for learning and for interaction with patients. Recently the university hosted a workshop where students and clinicians shared their experiences of using the tablet computer on a daily basis. The group discussed what tools they used, including note taking, flash cards, and specific medical apps that they found useful. Below is a 40-minute video from the event:
HealthOneMed launches doc-monitored, personal meds manager:
HealthOneMed launched the Dispense-A-Pill, a personal medication manager that dispenses drugs at preset times and in preset quantities. Pills are poured directly into the DAP and the device automatically sorts and dispenses the medications as directed. It skips the error-prone step of manually setting out the medication thus increasing safety, according to the company.
Motorola’s Android-powered Xoom tablet now displays Esaote ultrasound images:
Italian diagnostic imaging firm Esaote is touting that its MyLab line of ultrasound devices is now capable of sharing images with Motorola’s Xoom tablet, allowing physicians to review exams with colleagues and away from the patient. Though probably not restricted to Xoom only, the Esaote solution is an early salvo against iPad’s remarkable sweeping acceptance among clinicians and a vote of confidence for Google’s Android platform.
AT&T takeover target T-Mobile entering mHealth market:
T-Mobile USA Inc. inked partnerships with tow health care companies where the company is supporting the services’ with connectivity via its data network. GeaCom’s handheld multi-lingual device Phrazer, which hopes to break down communication barriers between patients and care providers, will run on T-Mobile USA’s network and BeClose Network’s panic button will soon be powered by the mobile communications company, writes MobiHealthNews. The publication recently weighed in on what AT&T Inc.’s (NYSE:ATT) acquisition of T-Mobile could mean for mobile health.
