Wearable Intelligence raises $8M for healthcare Google Glass

San Francisco-based Wearable Intelligence is just about $500,000 shy of closing a recent equity funding round in support of its mobile computing systems, according to the company’s SEC filing.
Wearable Intelligence has made headlines for its development of a PHILIPA-compliant Google Glass platform for healthcare settings. The product includes context-aware data alerts, procedural checklists, video training and telehealth communication, according to the company’s website. Read more
Healthsense expands with $10M for remote monitoring

Minnesota remote care company Healthsense is looking to expand its reach with the $10 million in financing, eying opportunities in managed care and home health.
Healthsense partnered with private equity firm Mansa Capital, saying that it hopes to leverage the group’s “exceptionally strong relationships” in areas that represent an “ideal complement to our thriving senior living business.” Mansa chief investment officer Ruben King-Shaw Jr. joined Healthsense’s board after the funding closed. Advanced Catheter Therapies boosts funding to $4.5M amid high interest

Tennessee-based medical device maker Advanced Catheter Therapies pushed the cap on its Series B funding round after generating more interest that it expected.
The company is now looking to raise $4.5 million where it had previously sought $3 million in support of its catheter-based endovascular drug delivery technology. Read more
Funding: Medtech VC jumps in Q2, but not for early-stage companies

Life science venture capital funding saw a major boost in the 2nd quarter as public markets smiled on biotech companies, but medical device makers saw a significant boost of their own – as long as they weren’t early-stage firms.
Device makers collected $649 million during Q2 2014, a 23% bump over the same period last year, according to a new report from PricewaterhouseCoopers. The number of deals decreased to 73, down year-over-year from 77 deals reported in Q2 2013. Read more
