Varian Medical Systems Inc. (NYSE:VAR) opened an equipment training center in Mumbai, India.
The Palo Alto, Calif.-based radiotherapy equipment developer established the center to educate medical physicists and technologists who use the company’s cancer treatment systems.
Varian equipped the facility with 16 workstations and a VERT training system from the radiotherapy training company VERTual Ltd. for treatment simulation.
“Radiotherapy use is growing rapidly here and we want to do whatever we can to equip the increasing number of practitioners with the experience they need locally,” Varian regional head of operations Michael Sandhu said in prepared remarks.
The Indian project is the company’s fourth training center outside the U.S., following similar centers in China, Switzerland and France. The company also has an education facility in Las Vegas.
