
Toshiba Medical Systems (TYO:6502) American medical products division won FDA clearance for the company’s newest model Aquilon CT scanner, the RXL Edition.
The new scanner features "the most advanced radiation dose reduction technology" as well as sophisticated algorithms for reducing noise while maintaining image quality, according to a press release.
The company hopes to provide "safer exams for improved patient care," CT business unit senior director Satrajit Misra said in prepared remarks.
The Tustin, Calif.-based medical device maker earlier this year won FDA clearance for the Aquilon Prime, designed for healthcare facilities that need to perform a wide variety of advanced clinical examinations with reduced radiation exposure.
Just last week Toshiba announced FDA clearance for its newest Vantage Titan 1.5T MR systems, which tout new aesthetic features as well as imaging upgrades.
Toshiba ranked 5th on MassDevice.com’s top research & development spenders, with $4.27 billion spent during 2011.
